A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

A friend once told me, in glass blowing if you can’t make it good, make it blue.  For me extrapolating this to theater I would say if you can’t make it good fill the stage with scantily clad women.    This raised great concern for me when I learned that A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was set with an all-male cast.  I left the production realizing that this was the way Forum was always meant to be presented.  The all-male cast in Forum brings Funny to a new level.  Nothing short of creative genius is provided by the inventive direction of Jessica Stone.

I have found that revivals of 1960’s productions can more of an archeological dig than a theatrical experience.  Forum here has been reinvented in every facet.  It is fresh, crisp and 21st century.

It was a great post-Thanksgiving family event with the five kids, a niece and a visiting friend.

The experience was globally positive.  Two River Theater is as welcoming and comfortable a venue as you can imagine.  Comfortable seats, great sight lines, beautiful building, affordable tickets, Equity Actors, it’s all there. It was pleasant reminder of how satisfying regional theater can be.  A family outing with nine of us gave everyone an afternoon to remember.  Keep your eye on the Two River Theater Company.    They have set a very high bar.
